Colluli Potash Mine

EcoAnalysts is currently leading an Independent Environmental and Social Consultant (IESC) review for Endeavour Financial to develop an Environmental and Social Due-Diligence assessment (ESDD) of the construction of an advanced greenfield sulfate of potash developments in the Danakil region of Eritrea, East Africa Panama. This area is approximately 350 kilometers (km) by road from the capital city Asmara and 230 km by road from the Port of Massawa, which is Eritrea’s key import/export facility. The Colluli resource is in a sparsely populated area about 50 km from the nearest Red Sea coast and is near the border with Ethiopia.

The EcoAnalysts team of professionals is leading the assessment for compliance with Equator Principles, International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability (IFC 2012) and Good International Industry Practice (GIIP). In addition to the international standards, further implementation is required under the current legal mining framework complying with all National Eritrean requirements as set out in the proclamation No 68/ 1995. Progress to date, includes the completion of a site visit to the proposed site(s) along with interviews with members of the surrounding communities to discuss any issues or concerns, a review of baseline data collected to date, a data gaps analysis summary, and the completion of the preliminary ESDD report.

The overall goal of the Project is to ensure that construction and operation of the proposed Potash development will occur in manner that promotes an acceptance balance with environmental and social standards.
