Selected Project Experience
Taxonomic Services: Southern United States Benthic Macroinvertebrates
Benthic Macroinvertebrate Taxonomy Services (1999 – present).
EcoAnalysts provides benthic invertebrate sorting and identification services for the US Geological Survey on several projects throughout the State of Texas. We have processed over 150 samples to genus/species level including Chironomid midges. Most projects used a 500-count sub sample target, although some have used a 100-count sub sample. Texas is a biologically diverse state and samples typically have high taxa richness. EcoAnalysts provided a sub sampling effectiveness analysis whereby samples were processed in increments of one hundred organisms until completion. We generated species richness curves to illustrate the effectiveness of sub sampling on taxa richness and other bioassessment metrics.
Oklahoma Benthic Macroinvertebrate Taxonomy Services (2004 – present).
EcoAnalysts is providing genus-level identifications for a client in Oklahoma on over 150 samples throughout the state. Our client sorts the samples and our taxonomy staff identifies the 100-count sub samples.
Arizona Benthic Macroinvertebrate Taxonomy Services (2002 – present).
EcoAnalysts is presently sorting and identifying benthic macroinvertebrate samples for the State of Arizona. A minimum of 550 invertebrates are sorted and identified to genus/species level except for Chironomid midges and Oligochaete worms. Rigorous sorting and identification quality assurance standards are maintained and all results are documented and reported to the client. We have processed over 150 samples for this project.
Kissimmee River Restoration Monitoring Project (2004 – 2005).
EcoAnalysts processed 150 drift samples from a section of the Kissimmee River for the South Florida Water Management District. We sorted and identified samples and measured dry weights for each order within a sample.
