Selected Project Experience
Taxonomic Services: Periphyton & Phytoplankton
Delaware DENR Periphyton (2005).
We processed 52 periphyton samples collected from the state of Delaware’s statewide water quality monitoring network. We identified diatoms to species level and soft-bodied algae to genus. This was the first year of periphyton data collection for the development of a future periphyton bioassessment index.
Cheyenne River Assessment (2004).
EcoAnalysts processed twenty periphyton samples from the upper Cheyenne River and its tributaries in South Dakota. We identified periphyton and soft-bodied alge to genus-level. In addition, we calculated several biological metrics that were used to provide information regarding the biological integrity of the system.
Kootenai River Periphyton (2002 – present). EcoAnalysts processes approximately eighty samples per year from the Kootenai River. We identify diatoms to species-level and calculate bioassessment. We are also identifying soft-bodied algae to genus-level. We have processed over 240 algae samples for this project.
Phytoplankton (2004). EcoAnalysts identified nine plankton samples from lakes in the San Francisco area as part of a study analyzing the effects of lake treatments. We identified plankton to species-level and calculated biovolumes. We also provided a narrative description of the zooplankton communities describing spatial and temporal trends.
