Taxonomic Services: New England Benthic Macroinvertebrates
NEIWPCC/USEPA Benthic Macroinvertebrate Identification Services (2003 – 2004).
EcoAnalysts conducted a two-year project for the USEPA and New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Council to sort, identify and enumerate 240 benthic macroinvertebrate samples from eight New England states. Samples were identified to genus/species level where possible, including Chironomid midges and Oligochaete worms. We employed strict quality assurance on sorting effectiveness (90%) and identification accuracy (10% sample re-ID, 90% similarity).
City of New York Benthic Macroinvertebrate Identification Services (1998 – present).
EcoAnalysts conducts macroinvertebrate identification services for the City of New York. 100-count macroinvertebrate sub samples are identified by EcoAnalysts to genus/species level, including Chironomid midges and Oligochaete worms. We process approximately seventy samples per year for the agency. Several new state records for mayflies and stoneflies have been discovered during the course of this project.
US Geological Survey Benthic Macroinvertebrate Identification Services (1996 – present).
EcoAnalysts has processed more than 220 benthic macroinvertebrate samples from the Neversink River watershed for the US Geological Survey over the last 11 years. A variety of projects use kick samples, Surber samples, Hess samples and multi-habitat samples to evaluate the ecological health of the system. Sub sample counts have ranged from one hundred organisms to complete counts. Samples are identified to genus/species level including Chironomid midges and Oligochaete worms.
