Lauren works as a lab technician with the Port Gamble team and is involved in lab operations and performing effluent and sediment toxicity tests. Born and raised on a farm in eastern Washington, Lauren moved to the coast to study oceanography and marine biology at the University of Washington. Following graduation in 2014, she was hired by the university to research coral reefs and ocean acidification on the south pacific island of Tahiti. For one year, she collected chemical and biological data to characterize the reef and establish a baseline for future research. She also has experience in marine mammal stranding response and sea turtle rehabilitation. Her free time is spent stand up paddle boarding and backpacking in Washington and planning her next trip abroad.
