Mr. Lonsway is an experienced international environmental and social compliance professional. Before joining EcoAnalysts, Mr. Lonsway served as Vice President with Conservation International (CI) responsible for Climate Finance (Green Climate Fund). Before CI, Kurt was a key employee at the African Development Bank (AfDB). He began his service at the bank as a Senior Irrigation Engineer and advanced to a Principal Environment and Social Development Specialist and then Manager of Environment and Social Safeguards and Compliance Division – Quality Assurance and Results Department. Mr. Lonsway served as Manager of Environment and Climate Change during his last seven years at the Bank, overseeing a team of environmental, social, climate change, renewable energy and green growth specialists working with Bank operations in infrastructure, energy, water and sanitation, mining, transportation and communications in both the private and public sectors. He also managed a portfolio of $1.5 billion of climate finance, energy and environment initiatives on behalf of the Bank including the Climate Investment Funds, the Global Environment Facility, the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa, and the Africa Climate Change Fund.
Before the AfDB, Kurt was the Manager for the International Development Service team for Environmental Resources Management (ERM) in Washington, DC and subsequently served as the Moscow Project Coordinator for a large oil and gas project in Siberia, Russia. He also served as Country Representative for the International Water Management Institute in Niger, West Africa, Associate and Engineer for International Projects at Dames and Moore and an Agricultural Engineer for USAID in Tanzania. He started his career as a Peace Corps Volunteer in both Cote d’Ivoire and Tanzania, Africa.
