EcoAnalysts’ marine taxonomist Dr. David Drumm was invited to a workshop in Poland on the diversity of deep-sea tanaidacean crustaceans (May 16-22, 2017), led by Polish researcher Magdalena Błażewicz. Material from the IceAGE cruises (Iceland) was examined and several species new to science were discovered. David is collaborating with a Polish researcher on the description of one of these new species. Tanaidaceans are one of the least understood groups of marine organisms and current estimates only represent 2-3% of the global diversity. There was also discussion on future collaboration of an online interactive key of the families and genera of Tanaidacea.
In addition to routine processing of taxonomic samples for environmental monitoring and assessment projects around the globe, our taxonomists endeavor to publish our scientific discoveries in peer reviewed journals regularly, thereby improving our understanding of aquatic organisms, their taxonomy, and their ecology.
