Ecological Specialists, Inc. (ESI, O’Fallon, MO) and EcoAnalysts, Inc. (Moscow, ID) are merging

We are pleased to announce that Ecological Specialists, Inc. (ESI, O’Fallon, MO) and EcoAnalysts, Inc. (Moscow, ID) are merging. ESI has been owned and operated by Heidi Dunn since 1990, and has focused largely on freshwater mussel surveys and ecology, environmental impact assessment, endangered species consultation, fisheries surveys, and training for clients. ESI’s project locations have ranged from New York to Kansas and North Dakota to Oklahoma.  The firm consists of 10 scientists, malacologists, divers and administrative staff, and ESI is widely considered a leader in the field of freshwater mussel conservation and ecology.

EcoAnalysts is owned by founders Gary Lester and Scott Lindstrom and has been in business since 1995. The core services of the firm focus on aquatic biological communities, such as algae, plankton, macroinvertebrates, and fish. These organisms are used as indicators of water quality and management activity effectiveness. With a staff of 40+ laboratory technicians, taxonomists, and aquatic ecologists, EcoAnalysts is the largest taxonomy/bioassessment laboratory in North America. EcoAnalysts has worked in every state and province and has a global portfolio of marine projects. Their expertise in freshwater, estuarine, and marine environments is unparalleled.

“I’ve known Heidi personally for several years and we are very excited to welcome the ESI team to EcoAnalysts,” says Gary Lester, President and CEO of EcoAnalysts. “By joining forces with ESI, we increase our aquatic ecology service offerings to better serve our existing clients, gain access to new ones, and have a strategic presence in the center of the country. It also gives our employees opportunities to participate in newer and bigger roles.”

Scott Lindstrom, VP/CFO of EcoAnalysts says “This merger is a great growth opportunity for our company.  The next few months will be a lot of work to integrate our companies, but we have a collective of great staff that is up for the challenge.”

“Merging with EcoAnalysts is a win-win situation for Ecological Specialists, Inc., EcoAnalysts, and all of our clients,” says Heidi Dunn of Ecological Specialists, Inc. This merger will allow both firms to offer services on the coasts and in the Midwest, and offer quality field, laboratory, agency coordination, and data analysis services for freshwater mussels, fish (adults and ichthyoplankton), and benthic invertebrates. We look forward to working with staff that shares our goal of enthusiasm for aquatic ecosystems and providing quality service to clients.”

Under the terms of the merger, EcoAnalysts will be acquiring the stock of ESI and ESI will continue to operate under its current name as a subsidiary of EcoAnalysts through the end of 2016. In 2017 we will combine all operations under EcoAnalysts, Inc.
